Proposal
Student commitment:
1. Initial ‘proposal’ is presented in narrative format to Faculty Advisor.
2. Proposal includes clarity of personal learning goals.
3. Proposal includes an outline of any specific knowledge, skills, behaviours to be developed.
4. Proposal includes any research to be undertaken, use of resources, access to materials , any space requirements, etc.
5. Complete a ‘reflection summary’ that aligns this Independent Study to academic program / major and graduate profile.
Faculty commitment:
1. Review initial ‘proposal’ with student, modify if necessary, approve and recommend future action.
2. If this is a modification of an existing course, review Course Outline and any delivery / completion modifications.
3. Confirm frequency of meetings with student.
4. Align learning outcomes to assessment criteria, toward determination of final grade.
5. Clarify assessment criteria, including description of assignments, projects, critiques, etc.
6. Confirm any ‘process checks’ and ongoing assessment(s) required from student at each scheduled meeting.
7. Confirm course completion date, including assessment deadlines.
8. Ask student for ‘reflection summary’ that includes their learning experience, relevance to their goals.
